Susan Lomas, New York c. 1992

Susan Lomas (née Clements) was born in Watford in 1964 and grew up in Harrow, Middlesex. She gained a BA Honours Degree in Fine Art from Norwich School of Art and a Post Graduate Certificate in Art and Design Education at the Institute of Education, London. Susan taught Art and Design at secondary level (11-18 year olds) in Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire for twelve years, becoming Head of Art at John Colet School, Wendover, in 1997.

Susan first visited Serre Chevalier in 2001. By 2003 she had become a permanent resident. She has since turned her hand to various jobs: English teaching, sign-writing and merchandising for local businesses. From 2002 onwards Susan has produced a series of watercolours featuring the picturesque views and buildings of the Serre Chevalier valley, which are available to buy as framed originals or prints.

In 2012 Susan published her first book ‘The History of Serre Chevalier and Briançon’.  In 2013 she broadened her horizons while researching the life of musician and songwriter, Kevin Ayers by travelling to Deià in Mallorca and also to the Languedoc Roussillon region of France. She published her second book ‘Kevin Ayers, August 16th 2013, Deià’ in the summer of 2014.

Susan regularly attends classes at the Atelier des Beaux Arts in Briançon. She is passionate about sharing excellent artistic practice with others and is always ready to take on new challenges. Susan is currently working on a series of watercolours depicting the historic buildings of Briançon Cité Vauban.

    Hello Susan,
    I’ve bought your book in the Villeneuve bookshop last Feb 2015. I’m from Serre Chevalier and I graduated in English at University. I wonder if you are working on translating your book into French and I may help you if you wish.
